NAMES OF PRESIDENTIAL FELLOWS BECAME KNOWN

Two students of the South Russian State Polytechnic University withstood a high competition and became scholarship holders of the President of the Russian Federation in the 2022/23 academic year. Both polytechnics - Vera Ulyanova and Yuri Novikov - study at the technological faculty of our university.

Every year, the most deserving students and graduate students of Russia who have passed the competitive selection are awarded this kind of encouragement for success in their educational and scientific activities.

Vera Ulyanova is studying at the Department of Chemical Technology with a degree in Technology and Processing of Polymers and has moved to the third year.

Vera, despite her short student "experience", already has on her account many different conferences and creative competitions, as well as participation in writing scientific articles.

- I plan to continue doing science, - Vera Ulyanova shares her plans. - The research I am participating in will help improve the production of mineral fertilizers and make it virtually waste-free. Our scientific group at the Department of Ecology and Industrial Safety is engaged in the processing of waste products from the production of phosphate fertilizers into a phosphor material that glows under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. I will develop the use of this material in symbiosis with polymers for both decorative and practical purposes (for example, to increase the strength and resistance of polymers to sunlight).

The girl does not hide her joy at the appointment of a presidential scholarship. “It's nice to know that my work was encouraged, this scholarship will help me work effectively and develop my direction,” says Vera.

Yuri Novikov is the pride of the Department of General Chemistry and Technology of Silicates, the young man graduated from the first year of the master's program.

- I was mainly allowed to apply for a scholarship by publications in high-ranking journals, full-time participation in scientific and technical conferences, - Yuri is sure, - as well as a victory in the WRC competition among bachelor's degree graduates of universities who graduated in 2021.

Next year, Yuri plans to enter graduate school, he is going to develop an area of interest to him - the processing of coal energy waste into porous geopolymer materials. “These are new materials obtained by alkaline activation of aluminosilicate raw materials, including waste from coal generation (boiler slag, fly ash, ash and slag mixtures), the young man explains. “In addition, pore-forming additives are introduced into the reaction mixture, which makes it possible to obtain a lightweight porous material with thermal insulation properties that can be used in the construction of buildings, roads, and so on.”

We congratulate our scholarship holders on their well-deserved success, and wish them high academic achievements and new scientific breakthroughs!
